Participation in Neighborhood Networks has enabled Bauer House to install five new computers in our common areas and connect them to the world wide web.

Bauer Net makes the internet free and readily available to all of our residents and improves their quality of life by facilitating increased social interaction and providing stimulating mental activity.

Bauer Net also provides access to a world of information for residents that are not English language proficient. Residents can often be seen obtaining news, information and even streaming video in Albanian, Chinese or Spanish. In addition, Bauer Net aids these residents by providing an inexpensive way to communicate with far away friends and family. Through Neighborhood Networks our program has also acquired ESL software to provide assistance with English learning.

Bauer Net's Goals:
  • Reduce loneliness and isolation
  • Stimulate mental activity
  • Awaken interest in computer technology
  • Stimulate communication between elderly and young
  • Improve autonomy and quality of life
  • Reduce reliance on caretakers
  • Increase access to medical information
  • Increase access to government and support services
  • Stimulate integration into community and society
In order to work toward these goals Bauer Net is pleased to receive the support from volunteers from Quincy High School. Our student volunteers run four one-hour-long sessions a week. The goal of these sessions is to provide participants with small group and one-on-one assistance in the areas that are the most useful and interesting to them.
